The Camino de Santiago hardly needs an introduction. The modern revival of this millenial pilgrimage route across northern Spain has redefined the meaning of pilgrimage, and even of travel itself.
I personally did The Camino for the first time in 2010, walking from San Jean Pie du Port in France to Santiago de Compostela. Little did I know then just how life changing it would prove.
I have to give The Camino some credit for my choice of husband, and marrying that Spainard brought me back to The Camino, not as pilgrim but as a local resident.
Living in León, Spain, since 2019, gives me on-the-ground, practical insights into The Camino. I also keep digging into Camino history, culture, lore, and ongoing developments.
The Camino continues to fascinate me.
With all this at my disposal, I love helping people plan their Camino. For me, there is no right or wrong way to do the Camino, apart from following the norms of common decency, and no pilgrim who is more authentic than another.
For as long as pilgrims have trekked to Santiago de Compostela, they have done it in a variety of ways, intentions for their pilgrimage.
Now, just as a thousand years ago, you can set out on the Camino with nothing but a backpack and a trust in Divine Providence, or you can go with additional supports for your journey.
Today the elements to help pilgirms on their journey to Santiago span everything from mobile phone apps to luggage services and taxis. For lodging, pilgrims have a wide range of hotels and hostels to choose from and book ahead ot make the journey a bit more secure. You can go alone or with a group.
